Wood Badge for the 21st Century is the ultimate in Scout Leadership Training, and part of BSA's Training Continuum for lifelong learning. What does that mean? It means that this newly redesigned course strengthens ALL volunteers' ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults. It is designed to give leaders the tools to understand how teams work; know what leadership style is appropriate to use in various situations; manage conflict; plan; communicate; and understand how to set a vision and make it come to life. In short, you will receive knowledge of many skills that will help you leave your own legacy in Scouting as well as in the rest of your life.
Organized by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, Wood Badge is designed to offer Scouters the opportunity to learn leadership skills in both a conference setting and an outdoor environment. The first part is a 2-weekend experience living with a group of Scouters in an outdoor environment. During this time, you are trained in leadership skills so that you may better serve those units with which you are involved. During the second part, which follows the outdoor experience, you will work for up to 18 months on commitments made during the two weekends (the "ticket"). Upon successful completion of your Wood Badge "ticket," you will receive your beads of recognition and become an official member of Troop One, Gilwell.
